Showing off the Goods! UMA celebrates its first UMA Day on the Hill

February 27, 2025

This past Tuesday, February 25, 2025, UMA held its first ever UMA Day on the Hill. (#mfgonthehill) We were so excited to bring our partners up to the Capitol to show off the wide variety of consumer goods manufactured here in Utah. From cheese, to cereal, to vitamins, and skis the gambit of locally made items that you can buy is astounding.

“What a treat it is to learn how many things are made here (in Utah) and letting us eat all these great samples.” – House Security member

Legislators, interns, policymakers, and everyone involved in the Legislative session were invited to come and learn about these amazing companies and walk away with a bag full of goodies. Visitors got to learn where these companies reside, what they make, and how they impact Utah’s economy. This event marked the first of many to come where we can show off how “What Utah Makes, Makes Utah”. Thank you to all who came and participated and we hope to see you next year.

Meet the Manufacturers

La Flor: Good thing we ran this during the lunch break because La Flor came prepared with their delicious tortilla chips with your choice of guacamole or salsa. Visitors were able to walk away with a package of tortillas setting them up for a Taco Tuesday dinner. La Flor Foods has been making high quality corn and flour products since 1991. They provide their homemade tortillas and chips to local restaurants and regional grocery stores like Macy’s.

PBfit: Who knew how versatile a sample size of roasted peanut powder could be?! With less fat and less calories than traditional peanut butter and a punch of protein these were great to help with focus during this busy session. Our marketing manager will attest to their deliciousness as she made peanut butter cookies the next day with her toddler who devoured them. PBfit started in 2015 and can be found in major retailers like Costco, Walmart, Amazon and more.

DPS Skis: We may not have seen much snow down here in the valley, but the mountains have seen plenty and DPS Skis can set up to go flying down the slopes. Founded in 2005, DPS Skis set out with a bold vision: to revolutionize powder skiing by crafting groundbreaking ski shapes using cutting-edge carbon fiber technology. In 2013 they brought all manufacturing back to the beehive state and are the largest domestic producer of skis in the U.S.

Park City Creamery: Speaking of coming down the slopes. We were thrilled to have Park City Creamery join us and provide samples of their creamy soft cheeses. Visitors were treated to their soft flavorful brie and sweet French accents. Founded in 2018 they have been racking up the awards for their unique authentic style cheeses with a Utah twist.

Silencer Co.: This company caught everyone’s eye with their bright orange set-up and wide variety of silencers on display. Servicing a wide variety of gun users they have been dedicated to customers since 2008. Not only do they create industry leading products, they provide gun and product education.

Honeyville: They set up their grab and go table with a large assortment of take-home goods that you recognize from your local grocery store. Visitors were treated to company products they co-manufacture with such as Duncan Hines, Kodiak Cakes, and Annie’s. Started back in 1917 they over the century they have grown to a leading food manufacturer.

Beehive Cheese: Who doesn’t love a bite of cheese? Beehive Cheese’s table was a buzz with visitors providing samples of their Red Butte Hatch Chile and Seahive. Founded in 2005 they produced at the mouth of Weber Canyon for almost 20 years. In 2024 they teamed up with another UMA partner Gossner Cheese to help continue their vision and producing their delicious variety of cheeses.

EMS Solutions: Circuit boards are found in items that we use every day and EMS Solutions can be thanked for that. Their table showed circuit boards of all shapes and sizes to demonstrate the variety of what they manufacture. Founded in 2000 they have grown into a premier regional Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider.

Vital Pax: Nutrition is always top of mind especially as we get older and are aware of how it affects us day to day. They definitely won the award for the furthest traveled coming all the way up from La Verkin! The diversity of nutritional supplements manufactured, and their services caught the eye of many at the event. Offering full-service contract manufacturing from product development, formulation, compliance, manufacturing, and fulfillment – to printing, packaging, shipping, and more.

Post Consumer Brands: Post came prepared to provide an afternoon pick-me-up with a variety of single serve cereals and of course a cooler full of ice-cold milk. Picture a member of the session in their business best chowing down on Fruity Pebbles and smile. Tracing its roots all the way back to 1895 this company has grown and changed including adding pet food to their manufacturing catalog.

Taffy Town: If you are a long time Utah resident you know Taffy Town and you may have even known it as the Glade Candy Company. Visitors were treated to samples of a few taffy favors (did you know they produce over 90 different flavors?!) and could walk away with a bag of taffy. I am sure this little sugar rush helped in the late afternoon. This family run company started out in 1916 and has created a unique whipping process to give their taffy a softer and chewier texture than traditional saltwater taffy. You can find them in a variety of stores or at their headquarters in West Jordan.

Lakanto: As visitors enjoyed their tasty local treats Lakanto was there to provide a refreshing sugar-free beverage using their Monkfruit syrups. Made on the spot, these beverages highlighted their main ingredient monkfruit and how it can be a delicious sugar-free option to quench your thirst. Visitors were able to walk away the water enhancer and other no sugar added munchies. Lakanto’s parent company Saraya USA came to Utah in 2015 and chose Orem to be their North American production headquarters in 2023.

OSH Cut: Need a custom fabricated metal part? OSH Cut was present to answer this question and more about how local companies can get custom parts quickly. Their table was a treasure trove of different fabricated parts showing off the diversity of parts they can create. Founded in 2018, they allow customers to obtain quotes online and expanded over the year to include bending services, deburring and graining, and 3D model support with automated unfolding.

Swire Coca-Cola & Lifetime: Keeping visitors hydrated and caffeinated Swire donated an array of drinks from the classics, Smart Water, Monsters, and more. These beverages were kept cool in Lifetime coolers.

Not Quite Manufacturers, but Deserve the Love

Ogden City and Spectrum Recruiting Solutions also participated showing their dedication to the manufacturing industry. The support of the cities and the hard work of recruiters ensure that manufacturing will continue to grow and thrive in the Beehive State.
